About Us
We’re here to help people speak up and be heard, and to make sure that their thoughts and feelings are respected. We want to make sure that everyone can be involved in important decisions that affect their lives.
Our independent advocacy service is completely free and private, and anyone can ask for our help. We’re an independent charity, not part of any other organisations like social work or the NHS.
Partners in Advocacy started as part of Barnardos in the 1980’s and became a completely independent organisation in 1998. We are very proud that we are one of the oldest (largest) established independent advocacy organisations in Scotland.
We have teams and offices in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow and Highland and we work nationally. Our Advocacy Workers come from many different backgrounds. We recruit and train Volunteer Advocates who support our h who are supported from our Edinburgh office.
We provide independent advocacy for individuals living with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities and people over 65. We also provide independent advocacy to children and young people who are living with mental health issues, additional support needs and learning disabilities. We remain the only independent advocacy service working Scotland-wide that supports children aged 12 to 15 to have their views considered when decisions are being made about the support they get with their learning.
We also some collective advocacy (group advocacy) in specific areas of Scotland.
Why do we emphasise "independent" advocacy? Because it's the gold standard in terms of representing the views of the individual, free from any bias or pressure from any other person or organisation. There is no conflict of interest, we are there to support nobody else's agenda other than the person accompany, our advocacy partner.
